JOURNEY TO BETHLEHEM
Joseph learned he was required to travel to Bethlehem and pay the census taxes. He worried about the difficult journey. Mary was near her time for giving birth, and he did not want to leave her alone in Nazareth. The couple packed food and a goatskin filled with water. Mary and Joseph wrapped their heavy cloaks over their tunics, gave a few handfuls of barley to the donkey, and set off for Bethlehem.
